Motivation you can hold

Introducing Azubah, a new addition to our family of motivational products.

Azubah was my mom's middle name; the modern definition tells us it means 'deserted,' something I never felt, even when Mom worked long hours and I spent my day with my grandmother in her absence. This project is dedicated to her wisdom, inspiration, and encouragement, and to the enduring impact they have had on my life.

For this post, I'm focusing on the events of the past five years, when I fell ill and was hospitalized for three months. During my hospitalization, there was twice-weekly dialysis, and I had to be fed by whichever nurse was scheduled at that time, or Mom's daily visits. Upon release, I was out of work for almost two years, including 18 months of rehab and follow-up surgeries. An unintended consequence of this illness resulted in a below-the-knee amputation on my left leg. Before receiving my prosthesis, I came to rely on Mom for my every movement, getting to doctors, therapy, and food.

Sadly, Mom passed two years later, and this project has been a labor of love, hard work, and dedication, working under my new life realities.  The fish, named after my mom, has a hook in its mouth, a symbol of being captured, wounded, and surviving. It carries the hook as a badge of honor and has additional piercings as a testament to its resilience; this teaches us all that, no matter our current situation, we should always remember: this too shall pass.

The Azubah fish comes preloaded with nine original inspirational quotes and an on/play button on its tail. Whenever you need a pick-me-up, just press play for a selected quote taken from any one of the four books I have published and featured on phzed.com. Please feel free to leave a comment or question(s).
